Looking back - 2019

5 years ago – November 2019:  I was out for 3 months with a stress fracture in my sacrum.  I spent a lot of the month hiking and biking.  Most of the biking was in the basement, but I also mixed it up with some trips to the “Islands” as I was trying to finish hiking every step of every Trustees of the Reservations locations.  I finished off the over 30 miles of trails at Notchview Reservation on 11/02.  It took 5 trips and over 1,000 miles of driving to get this done.

During the week days I’ve been taking my lunch (and a little bit of vacation time) and using it to head over to Ward Reservation.  This is the closest Trustees of the Reservations, less than 5 miles from my work.  There are some great trails in there including ones that offer views of Boston.  I’m enjoying the mid-day break and chance to get outside that has been sorely lacking with my exile to the basement for biking.

took some vacation time and used it to return to Martha’s Vineyard twice between Nov 22 and 25.  That meant a couple of very early mornings (2:45am on the road)  The first trip featured 30+ miles of biking, four ferry rides, and hiking at Mytoi (a Japanese style garden), Wasque (small but some beautiful trails and interesting trees), Norton Point beach, and The Farm Institute.  The second trip had just as much biking (30+ miles) and nearly 11 miles of hiking, all in the Poge Reservation.
