35 Years ago (June 1990): Not much going on, I had a low mileage month (296) but I’m not sure why. No injuries of note. I started the month with the USATF (then NEAC) 10k championships in Plainville, MA. It was a windy and warm day on this point to point course with just under 1,000 finishers. The lead pack broke away at 2 miles and I couldn’t go, I hung in the chase pack until 3.5 but then drifted off the back and ended up alone. I took home $300 for my 8th place finish in 30:38. (decent money, total of $20,000!)

Two weeks later it was up the Mt Washington Auto Road where I had a disappointing run (1:01:37 for 2nd place). I ran with Derek Froude for the first 2.5 then he buried me. He went on to win breaking my course record and becoming the first to run under 1 hour.

A week later I ran a lackluster 5 miles at the Cappy’s Kopper Kettle race. Time didn’t matter as I was more interested in the $500 for winning, which I did in 25:13. Rod Ellsworth and Dave Cremin did most of the work and I ran with them until the last 400 meters then went into a kick.
